DH has been away all week and over two evenings Lucy and I re-watched the film Nanny McPhee. We are both fond of this children’s movie; I, for my favorites Emma Thompson and Colin Firth, and Lucy for the old-fashioned fairy tale suffused with magic.
Lucy tends to be easily scared by films but she was never worried by this one. As the story opens, a hapless nanny (number seventeen) rushes screaming from the house, shrieking that the six naughty older children “are eating the baby!” The father drops everything to run to investigate. The camera pans over a table full of boys and girls tearing at meat with their teeth.
Even when she was small, Lucy never turned a hair.
“Obviously it’s not the baby,” she remarked. “Too many drumsticks.”
